Guthrie in Record Books! but not for a good reason…

While most of America was enjoying their Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th, there were many games around the MLB.

One of them being the Yankees-Royals game.

The Yankees came into the game, losing 9 of their last 10 games.

The pitcher for the Royals was aging righty, Jeremy Guthrie.

He happened to set an MLB record Monday afternoon for his pitching performance. hi-res-68d1d1f4b0076e5de5da9af2231bfdda_crop_north

He did not throw a no hitter, perfect game, or anything close to that. In fact, he did not even pitch more than an inning. Guthrie pitched one inning and allowed 11 runs. ELEVEN!

That tied the MLB record for most earned runs in an inning. All of the home runs were via the long-ball. There were 3 3-run homers and a 2-run homer. The Yankees went on to win the game.

CF3way9UMAA40tRLets just say that two things are high as of today.

The Yankees esteem, heading into game 2 of the 3 game set.

And… Jeremy Guthries ERA.

What an incredible catch

Todays Sportscenter #1 play came from an outfielder named Garry Hill.

Doesn’t ring a bell?

We didn’t think so.

Thats because Gary Hill is a high school player that made one of the most incredible catches I’ve ever seen.

He does almost a full flip in mid-air and comes down with the ball.

Truly an incredible catch

Alvarez launches homer…into boat

Tuesday night in Pittsburg, Pedro Alvarez hit a flat-out moon shot.

It went so far that it left PNC park.

But, that was not the major headline of the swing.

Alvarez launched his home run into a boat docked in the port, just over the right field wall.

A young couple happened to get lucky enough to come across a free ball, although it did involve getting in the boat.

Lets just hope the owner didn’t get mad.

Orioles will pay their stadium workers for missed games

This is the kind of thing that makes me happy.

The Orioles announced that they will pay their stadium workers for the two games that CE5Ljb0UgAA7Lwewere not played in Baltimore due to the riots.

This is awesome for the Orioles to do because many of the Orioles workers depend on this money in order to make ends meet for their families.

I now have a tremendous amount of respect for the Orioles organization.

I’m sure that they have heard this a lot recently, but thank you to the Orioles.

Breaking down the Tulo Situation

Last night, Rockies all-star shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki announced that he would like to be TroyTulowitzkitraded.

Many people saw it coming, because a player at his caliber playing for such a bad team usually ends in a trade-demand.

He is batting a healthy .307 this season and plays a prime position.

Many teams would love to have Tulo on their team. Thats the upside. But, there are opposing factors.

The first being that Tulowitzki is owed a TON of money through 2020, and he isn’t getting any younger. He is also likely going to have to shift positions as he ages. The most probable position changes would be to third base or left field, both positions in which there is plenty of talent.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado RockiesThe Rockies fans also have stated that they may boycott the Rockies games if Tulo is traded, meaning that the commissioner may not even let a trade go through.

As for teams interested, the Mets and Padres seem like the most needing of a shortstop.

The Mets have already been in talks with the Cubs over their shortstops and this was before Tulo released this statement, meaning that a deal could be in the works.

As we know, A.J. Preller is no stranger to big deals, as he has added Matt Kemp, JamesMLB: Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies Shields, Justin Upton, and Craig Kimbrel just in the past 6 months, so we can also expect the Padres to be potential suitors.

Also, expect the Angels to be interested, as well as…you guessed it…the Yankees.

GM says Mets-Cubs trade will likely happen

“We haven’t made a deal yet, but there’s been matches that made sense, and I’m sure we’ll talk to them in the future,”

– Jed Hoyer, Cubs GM

This was said Monday night by the Cubs’ GM, Jed Hoyer. This is basically saying that there BaezBombare deals in place and that the only thing that needs fixing are the details.

The Cubs need pitching and have too many shortstops. The Mets need a shortstop and have too much pitching. This is a no-brainer for both clubs and we could see a deal VERY soon.

With the players likely being traded in this deal, it is extremely comparable to the trade the Yankees made with the Mariners a few years back, sending prospect, Michael Pineda in exchange for Prospect Jesus Montero. Both were youngsters that were supposedly about to reach their prime.

wheelerThis is the case for this deal. The most likely deal would be something along the lines of SP Zack Wheeler for IF Javier Baez. There would obviously be more than that, as there would probably be a few prospects here-and-there, but those would be the centerpieces.

With all likeliness, we should see a deal before the trade deadline, this season.

The Best Pitcher in baseball is…

Multiple choice question.

Who is the best pitcher in baseball?

A) Clayton Kershaw

B) Felix Hernandez

C) Michael Pineda

If you guessed C, you are correct!

This may leave many MLB fans scratching their heads, but it is actually true. 11pineda-blog480

Don’t believe me? Here’s how…

He leads all MLB pitchers with a WAR of 1.9. Kershaw is a 1.0 and Felix owns an impressive 1.85.

Pineda owns an impressive 5-0 record, which is 2nd to only Felix Hernandez who owns a 6-0 record.

Pineda is also pitching with a Walk-per-9 innings that is under 1. Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 11.21.14 AM

Fangraphs.com ranks him as #1 in front of Max Scherzer and Jake Odorizzi.

So, believe what you want to believe, but according to the numbers, Pineda is the best pitcher in the game right now.

Is Stephen Vogt a fluke?

It would be tough to overlook the season of A’s catcher, Stephen Vogt.

He is currently leading all MLB catchers in average, homers, and RBIs. He is batting .345Stephen_Vogt_7qmwcgd1_9l5ue7eh with 7 bombs and 25 RBIs.

He could be the best hitter in baseball right now. We are almost a month into the season right now and it is appearing that Stephen Vogt is one of the best MLB players.

But, it is still early, which is why the question, “Is Stephen Vogt a fluke?” is prevalent.

A’s fans definitely hope not, but division rivals hope so.

He is on pace to hit 40 home runs with 140 RBIs.

It is still early in the season, but hey, you never know, maybe he is just getting started…

Do the Yankees have the right to say no to A-Rod?

Recently, there have been various views on if A-Rod should receive his $6 million dollar bonus for hitting home run #660.

As a part of his enormous contract signed a few years back, there were milestone bonuses a-rod42that would give A-Rod a few million dollars when he breaks home run records.

Recently, he broke Willie Mays’ record, which was #660. What that means is that A-Rod should have received his $6M bonus from the Yankees. But, not so fast.

Brian Cashman stated, “We have the right, but not the obligation to do something, and that’s it,” Cashman said.“We’re going to honor our responsibilities of the contract. So there is no dispute, from our perspective.”

usa-baseball-mlbHe couldn’t have said it any better. The Yankees do not have to pay him. They can say yes or no, and looking at the fact that he has been caught for PED use after he signed the contract, it would appear that their clear answer would be NO.

Along with myself, I think that I can safely say that most of New York would agree that this is the right move by the Yankees.

Cruz + Hernandez = Mariners

After the Mariners signed Robinson Cano two offseasons ago, it was expected that he would be the main source of their offense for years to come.

Although he has been good, the Mariners seem to have found their #1 source of offense in 628x471OF Nelson Cruz. Cruz is having an incredible year. He has already hit 14 home runs and we are barely in May. He is batting .340 and has 28 RBIs.

He was signed this last offseason by the Mariners and is carrying the team.

There is also one other player that is carrying the team. Listen to this. When this player takes the mound, the team is 6-0. On days that he doesn’t take the mound, they are 5-15. This player is Felix Hernandez. He is 5-0 this year with an ERA of 1.73.

Without these two players, it would be very scary for the Mariners, but luckily,, they have them, and for a long time, as both players are under contract for at least 4 more years.
