Let’s take a look at the NL Rookie of the Year Candidates
Yasiel Puig .338 15 HR 35 RBI .403 OBP
Yasiel Puig is hands down the most exciting young baseball player. He has been a big part of The Dodgers success this year. You can count on Puig to be in the top 3 in ROY voting this season.
Shelby Miller 13-9 3.05 ERA 161 SO 1.20 WHIP
Shelby Miller is making a strong case to be one of the best young pitchers in the MLB. He has top-of-the-rotation stuff, and could be potentially one of the best pitchers in the NL.
Hyun Jin Ryu 13-5 3.05 ERA 139 SO 1.22 WHIP
This Korean-born southpaw has very similar numbers to Miller. It was an excellent move by The Dodgers to go out and get him. I don’t think he has what it takes to take the award home this year, but I think he is going to continue to be a solid pitcher for The Dodgers.
Jose Fernandez 11-6 2.21 ERA 183 SO 0.97 WHIP
It is being argued that Fernandez is having one of the best rookie pitching seasons ever. Fernandez may have less wins than the other candidates, but he is getting much less run support. His ERA is second to the best pitcher in baseball, and he is looking at 190 strikeouts. That’s pretty incredible for a rookie, and that is why Fernandez it the clear pick for the NL rookie of the Year.
